According to Bloomberg, Microsoft is ready to have its biggest amount of layoffs in the past five years. This isn’t a huge surprise as Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, stated last week that changes to Microsoft were afoot. The changes will be in engineering, marketing and overlaps with Nokia, according to Bloomberg‘s sources who are said to know Microsoft‘s upcoming restructuring plans. Their sources also suggest that Xbox teams would be affected as well. Bloomberg states that “some of the job cuts will be in marketing departments for businesses such as the global Xbox team.”
2009 was the last time Microsoft had a large amount of layoffs, in which 5,800 people were laid off. The supposed upcoming layoffs will top 2009’s massive job cuts. It is important to note that Microsoft has yet to comment on Bloomberg‘s report and two of their sources say that the restructuring is still being worked on.
With the current rumors about future massive layoffs at Microsoft, Bloomberg suggests that an announcement “may be unveiled as soon as this week.” We’ll keep you updated as more information is released about the rumored upcoming layoffs at Microsoft.
