Microsoft To Remove Gun-Like Objects From Avatars Starting January 1st?

According to Epic Games Community Manager, Will Kinsler, Microsoft is supposedly removing all guns from the Xbox Live Marketplace. However, the good news is that if you purchase guns prior to January 1st, 2012, you’ll be able to keep them.

“Heads up! Starting on Jan. 1, 2012, the Lancer and Hammerburst avatar items will no longer be available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace. If you’ve purchased the items prior to Jan. 1, you will be able to keep them. A new policy goes into effect for all gun-like avatar items on the Marketplace, so get them while they’re hot,” says Kinsler, referring to Gears of War guns.

Whether or Kinsler speaks the truth remains to be seen. After all,  I see no reason for Microsoft to remove avatar guns from the Xbox Live Marketplace without giving prior notice to Xbox users. However, Kinsler doesn’t stand to gain anything from spreading this rumor–if it is in fact a rumor–around.

What do you think Microsoft would gain from ridding the marketplace of gun-like objects? Tell us below in the comments!

Thanks, PC Magazine.
