Microsoft Buys Skype, Confirms Xbox and Kinect Support

Well Microsoft confirmed the purchase of EBay’s Skype and has decided to add it to the Xbox 360 platform. Now the way I see it is this is going to be awesome or this is really going to suck. Let me explain the two scenarios of how I think this support will probably be implemented.

1. AWESOME!
Microsoft will integrate Skype support into existing applications such as the Party Chat system and Video Kinect. They will also add the text portion to the current live messenger already in the console.

2. Sucks
Microsoft will make an exclusive app for Skype that won’t let you access or play games at the same time. You will weep as Skype links are posted in the text chat that you wont be able to access and at this point you’ll either just use your phone or laptop to access Skype as you always have.

The real question is what does this mean for the PSP app, Mac, and linux versions of Skype that Microsoft now has control over? Will it be like previous owners and neglect the platform for years and randomly update it every now and then, or will they take strives to keep all platforms up to date like the former small company couldn’t.

We’ll see if that 8.5 billion dollars was worth it in the next Xbox update. What do you think? Comment below and let us know.
