Mass Effect 2 & 3 Are Now Backwards Compatible on Xbox One

To celebrate N7 Day, BioWare and Major Nelson announced that Mass Effect 2 and 3 would be coming to Xbox One backwards compatibility. Only the disc-based versions will be backwards compatible to standard Xbox users – the digital versions of the latter games in the series will be available for EA Access members in The Vault.  Both the disc-based and digital versions of the first game are backwards compatible.

Mass Effect 2 and 3 continue Bioware’s epic RPG series. The games follow Commander Shepard and the crew of the SS Normandy, as they save the galaxy from a variety of threats including an ancient alien race known as the Reapers. A new entry in the series, Mass Effect: Andromeda, will start a new trilogy, with new characters and new planets to explore, and follows the Ryder family (where players will choose between playing as the brother or sister) in the Andromeda galaxy following the events of the final game in the trilogy. You can read our write-up on the new trailer for Andromeda here, which details the Pathfinder initiative that finds humanity put in the position of invaders in a strange new world.

To check out all the games that are backwards compatible with the Xbox One, Major Nelson has put together a very nifty spreadsheet on his blog.
