Mass Effect: Andromeda Day One Patch Won’t Fix Animation Issues

Mass Effect: Andromeda

The day one patch for Mass Effect: Andromeda will not include any changes to the game’s animations, despite fan criticism.

Andromeda’s lead designer Ian Frazier confirmed in a tweet that animation changes aren’t included. “At day 1? No, that ship has sailed,” tweeted Frazier in response to a fan asking about updates to the animations.

This makes sense as Frazier confirmed earlier that the day one patch was live on the EA/Origin Access early builds of the game. Frazier said more patches are coming for the game but the contents are still “in discussion.” In another tweet, he said the team was investigating options for fixing the issues.

Since its launch in EA/Origin Access earlier this week, the game has seen a firestorm around character animations. YouTube has several videos, many with thousands of views, decrying character and facial animations. The quirks range from strange eye movements during conversations to characters becoming bowlegged while running down stairs.

The EA/Origin Access version of the game gave players 10 hours to play before launch. Both the multiplayer and single-player portions of the game are available. Players can play as much multiplayer as they wish but the single player game stops at a specific point. This early preview of the game is only available on PC and Xbox One. EA Access is not available on the PlayStation 4.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is the fourth entry in the sci-fi RPG series. Set 600 years after Mass Effect 3, the game features new locations and characters. It’s not just separate in plot from the original trilogy; BioWare also dropped the Paragon/Renegade system as well. Fans shouldn’t expect a Nintendo Switch version of the game either. Mass Effect: Andromeda launches on March 21 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
