Livestream And UI Updates Added To Twitch Mobile App

UI Changes And Similarities To Its Desktop Version Are Coming To Mobile

With Twitch and Mixer battling it out for the best streaming service out there in the gaming community, several new changes are coming to revamp the Twitch mobile app. The changes include the ability to livestream directly from the app in addition to a new interface. The update won’t however let streamers broadcast games from their phones; which could leave some fans of phone streaming upset due to Mixers capability of phone streaming. The live broadcasts will use the device camera that the mobile app is installed onto such as your phone or tablet.

The Twitch mobile app will also overhaul its UI to reflect the desktop counterpart. The new UI will include a navigation bar, a Dark Mode for easier night-time viewing, instant playlists, and a Pulse feed for content recommendations.

The new app update is one of many efforts by Twitch to boost its audience. This update comes on the heels of such changes like opening its own game store and offering free in-game goodies to Twitch Prime subscribers including this months Overwatch Legendary Loot Box.

Adding the ability to livestream through a mobile device will further broaden the scope of Twitch offerings. Recently they have tried to broaden content outside of gaming with cooking programs, and creative streams such as users working on hand drawn art and the response is looking to be positive.

The Twitch mobile app rolls out starting June 28th for iOS and Android devices, but isn’t expected to be available to everyone until “early July”. What do you think of the new functionality? Will the ability to livestream bring more viewers to Twitch; or will it water-down the service and push it further from gaming?  Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
