Life as a Dark Jedi

After running through the Jedi Knight story arc in Star Wars: The Old Republic, I had the urge to see the same story told through the eyes of a Dark Jedi. Like any Bioware game, they give you the choice to be nice or mean, with a touch if gray. In every Bioware game that I have played, I have always played one character with “blue dialogue” and the other, “red”.

In SWTOR, playing as a Dark Jedi on Republic side isn’t as “dark” as I thought it would be. Yes, there are moments when I can chop down a prisoner with my lightsaber, however overall, being a Dark Jedi seems unbalanced.

In any Bioware game, the “good” conversation choice is on top while the “bad” is at the bottom. There would be times in SWTOR when I would choose the darker dialogue, but the words that my Dark Jedi speaks are less than dark or mean. Even the tone that she uses in a dialogue that is suppose to be the “red” choice comes out sympathetic at times. To me, it just doesn’t make any sense. I don’t like having my Dark Jedi blowing something up for the heck of it only to have her cheer for the Republic the next. That is unless she’s being sarcastic about it. To me, it appears that Bioware and EA were not expecting many to be Dark Jedi and instead hoped they would play on Sith side to satisfy their evil intentions.

  • Example: “You didn’t come here to rescue us, did you?”
  • Dark Jedi: “You have my sincere apology”

No! Why are you being apologetic? You’re the black sheep, the Jedi that went wrong, you don’t have to say that you are sorry!

It’s like your character can be good or somewhat bad with only certain moments that truly feel like you’re playing as a Dark Jedi. Why not stick with the formula that has worked countless time before:

  1. Good
  2. In the middle
  3. Bad

I have yet to reach end game with my Dark Jedi, as I’m on Hoth with her right now. Perhaps the ending might be at least slightly different than when I finished it with my Jedi…hopefully.
