If there’s a game that PlayStation 4 owners are highly anticipating, it’s The Last of Us 2. Especially after that presentation trailer sent chills down our spines. Naughty Dog is deep into the development process, and back in December Ashley Johnson, who plays the role of (now not so) young Ellie, posted on Twitter some pics of herself at a motion capture studio. Everything was going well until that moment.
Where was Troy Baker, the actor behind Joel’s voice and character? Was his absence from the trailer an indication of a terrible loss that we’ll experience in The Last of Us 2? The rumors started, and with them, all sorts of theories about Joel’s fate in the sequel.
The Last of Us 2 Goes Back to the Studio
Thanks to Ashley Johnson, and another one of her tweets, we know that Joel is also back in the game. In what shape and under what circumstances is another question. Neil Druckmann, creative director and co-writer of the game, retweeted the scene with a single word: “Infected!”
The Last of Us 2 takes place some years after the events of the first game and centers around Ellie, both in its narrative arc and the gameplay. This time, players will get to play as her while exploring what new nasty surprises lurk around corners in this post-apocalyptic world. According to Druckmann, the sequel will also distance itself from the topic of love that we saw in The Last of Us, instead exploring hate as the main driving force.
There’s no release date for The Last of Us 2 but we are surely going to get a deeper glimpse of it at Sony’s E3 conference this year. Stay tuned for that, as The Last of Us 2 promises to be one of Sony’s key titles during their show.
