Horizon: Zero Dawn: Guerrilla Games Already Talking About Sequel

Horizon: Zero Dawn

Horizon: Zero Dawn has been with us over a month and since then, it has catapulted Guerrilla Games to the industry’s Hall of Fame. Horizon has become the best-selling new IP from Sony for PlayStation 4 and the sales numbers keep on racking up. With these prospects in sight, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that its creators are already thinking about what comes next.

In a recent conversation with Game Informer, narrative director John Gonzalez and art director Jan-Bart van Beek have discussed the possibility of a sequel. For Gonzalez, an intrinsic part of Horizon: Zero Dawn’s success has been the emotional attachment of players towards Aloy. Therefore, a sequel would strive for the same level of connection with a narrative and its characters.

“Our number one goal would be to respect that connection by doing our utmost to create a story that resonates just as deeply,” he says.

When talking about what areas the next game could expand, van Beek makes it very clear.

“More machines,” he confirms. “They are a lot of fun to design, build, animate and play with. I wish we could have done a hundred”.

If like us, you are having tons of fun slaying those amazing mechanical beasts, it seems a sequel will quench our thirst even more.

Improvements Coming to Horizon: Zero Dawn

Guerrilla’s Game Director Mathijs de Jonge jumps in the discussion to offer clues about the future of Horizon. He discusses improvements and how these will appear in future entries to the franchise. For example, there are some plans to patch how many weapons Aloy can equip at once.

“At some point, we had more weapons on the wheel, but the controls got in the way with how quick we wanted the switching process to be”, says de Jonge.

This news come after Guerrilla’s managing director, Hermen Hulst, confirmed some weeks ago that the game would benefit from a future story-driven DLC.

It’s of course very early to start talking about a sequel to Horizon. However, the prospect of revisiting post-apocalyptic world crawling with mechanical dinosaurs is appealing. Guerrilla Games know what they are doing and we cannot wait for more. What about you?
