Homefront's Future Saved By Deep Silver

Koch Media and publisher Deep Silver have acquired all Homefront assets from Crytek.

This is a gentle sigh of relief for those who have been looking forward to the sequel, which had garnered plenty of attention from it’s initial preview and subsequent (at the time) revival after THQ sadly went under. Now it has been released from the struggling Crytek who are in the midst of a ‘transfer period’ and will be developed by newly founded studio Deep Silver Dambuster Studios in Nottingham, England.

“We are thrilled to see another great IP joining the Deep Silver universe… We strongly believe in the potential of Homefront: The Revolution and trust in the new team to continue the path they have been walking in the last years” – Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Koch Media Group

It’s uncertain how far along the production was for Homefront: The Revolution when the announcement came through today, given the recent walkouts from Crytek UK (formally Free Radical) due to pay disputes. It’s also unclear as to which engine the remainder of Homefront: The Revolution will be developed with, whether they stick with CryEngine or use the 4A Engine utilized in their apocalyptic sci-fi shooter series – Metro.

A few weeks back Deep Silver had only recently announced at E3 2014 that they were to partner with Crytek for publication of Homefront: The Revolution, and as reported last month it’s been quite the roller-coaster ride for Crytek, what with claims of bankruptcy, dwindling confidence and other weird happenings.

As stated earlier this will be the 3rd development studio that the game has been passed through and it’s hard to imagine how many different creative filters it has been churned through before getting to where it is now. We appear to be left with more questions than answers. What does this mean for Crytek, and will they be auctioning off more IP’s to stay afloat? Can Homefront: The Revolution actually be salvaged by this new development studio or is it doomed to a fate similar to Gearbox acquisitions Duke Nukem: Forever and Aliens: Colonial Marines? ………Only time will tell.

UPDATE: Crytek have just released a statement stating that Crytek UK are STILL working on Homefront: The Revolution in collaboration with Deep Silver for the time being, and most of the team will be transitioning over
