Hideo Kojima is having his gaming achievements recognized by his peers and enters a hall of fame for interactive creators.
If Konami won’t allow one of their progenitor creators to be recognized, then one of the few industry award platforms in video games will. The big boss of Metal Gear himself will be inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS) hall of fame that currently only has 20 other gaming industry members. This honor will be received by Hideo Kojima himself during the D.I.C.E. awards, which is a less glitzy, internalized version of the VGAs, and the award will be presented by his friend and potential colleague, Guillermo Del Toro.
For many people, including those deep inside the industry, Hideo Kojima was and continues to be one of the pioneers for cinematic storytelling in video games. He’s often called himself a cinemaphile and uses a lot of film techniques in his projects, especially so with his latest title, The Phantom Pain. He will be joining the likes of Gabe Newell, Mark Cerny, Yu Suzuki, Sid Meier, Peter Molyneux, and initial inductee Shigeru Miyamoto as a creator that AIAS considers worthy of surviving inside their halls.

Meanwhile, Hideo Kojima has been working on a new, smaller project atop his new perch inside Kojima Productions. There have been circulating images like the one above that paints his insignia for the new studio as a smaller part of concept art for that very project with the full image depicting a skeletal knight holding another skull. Neither he nor Sony, stated to be firmly on the developer’s team, have given any update since the studio’s initial opening.
Besides the hall of fame induction, the 19th annual D.I.C.E. awards will also give the industry a consensus on game of the year among other awards. Anyone can follow along during the awards on February 18, or even attend if you want at the Mandalay Convention Center in Las Vegas.
