Heads Up, Destiny Beta Lands on Xbox Tomorrow

For Bungie fans, it’s been four years since the studio bid Halo, and Xbox exclusivity, goodbye. The studio will return to the house that Spartan-117 built this week, when the Destiny beta opens for both Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Tomorrow, Xbox gamers can download the beta and see for themselves why Destiny is shaping up to be one of the biggest games of the year; deservingly so, given the reputation of the developer and the massive budget publisher Activision has allowed Bungie.

Available already for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, although down for maintenance until July 23rd, the Destiny beta allows you to take on a handful of story missions and to access the Tower, reminiscent of Mass Effect’s Citadel, in between shootouts. You also will gain access to the competitive multiplayer portion, which uses upgrades, weapons and armor gained from the story.

Microsoft’s Larry Hyrb, AKA Major Nelson, announced that a live stream of the beta will come from the San Diego Microsoft Store at Fashion Valley mall, and will have giveaways for those in attendance, including beta codes for the first 100 attendees.

The Destiny beta will remain active until July 27th. Bungie has said that beta testers will have certain rewards when the final game hits, though it’s unclear what those rewards will be. Perhaps we’ll know in September, when gamers can fully explore the world of Destiny on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
