2017 has claimed its first video game victim in the form of Guerrilla Games Cambridge, a legendary studio that had been in the business for nearly two decades.
Guerrilla Games Cambridge worked on the Killzone franchise, introduced the adorable LittleBigPlanet series, and even brought to life the cherished classic PSOne title MediEvil back in 1998.
Their full catalog of works is as follows:
Beast Wars: Transformers
Frogger
MediEvil
MediEvil 2
C-12: Final Resistance
Primal
Ghosthunter
MediEvil: Resurrection
PlayTV
LittleBigPlanet
TV Superstars
Killzone: Mercenary
RIGS: Mechanized Combat
Their last game, RIGS, was a PlayStation VR title released last year to decent acclaim. Sony has stated that while all fifty employees will be laid-off, there is a chance that some of the developers will be shifted to other projects. In a statement, Sony expresses their remorse for closing the studio, but “this decision should not take anything away from the incredible games and services that Guerrilla Cambridge has delivered.”
Sony has specified that the closure of the Cambridge locale will have no effect on Guerilla Games Amsterdam, which is currently working on Horizon: Zero Dawn.
