Greg Street, former Lead Systems Designer for World of Warcraft, has joined Riot Games as a lead designer.
While no official announcement has been made just yet, his LinkedIn page has been updated with his new workplace. Both Riot Games and Greg Street himself been quiet regarding change of workplace, which happened some time ago. Street changed his Twitter bio to “Current: Lead Designer, someplace cool” shortly after he announced his departure from Blizzard Entertainment.
Alexander Braize, a Games System Designer for Riot, confirmed he was with the company. He also added his two cents as to why Street has been a bit mum regarding his new workplace:
You know, he’s fresh at Riot and while he could post, we like people to be with Riot for a while to soak before forum posting.
That said, community-facing work is exhausting, I would be very impressed if he took on that role to the same degree again. I suspect we have bigger challenges for him and you still have Morello, Statikk, Meddler and I to troll you on the forums.
Braize commenting on how he’d be impressed should Greg Street take on such a public role with Riot might have something to do with the game’s infamous community. League of Legends players are known for being hostile and downright nasty, though this is a side-effect of the MOBA genre at large, not just League.
Fan reaction has been mixed. The vocal crowd has been quick to point out everything “wrong” he did with Blizzard, while others are curious about what he’ll bring to the game.
