Grand Theft Auto V Modders Allegedly Banned

Grand Theft Auto V Modders Banned

A group of Grand Theft Auto V modders allegedly had their Rockstar Social Club accounts banned last week. The reported ban prevents them from playing not just GTAV, but any game associated with the Rockstar platform.

The affected players are all members of the FiveM development team. The mod is being built to offer players of the massively successful Grand Theft Auto V an alternate space to play away from the primary Grand Theft Auto Online servers. As such, they claim that their mod does not conflict with Rockstar’s terms of service agreement that would otherwise prevent players from using mods while playing online.

Grand Theft Auto V modders have allegedly been banned

The first hints of this occurred when one of the Grand Theft Auto V modders took to Reddit, claiming that the bans were handed to him as well as two of his partners on the mod team. And then again when a member of the team took the issue to the Rockstar support website, claiming the ban to have been handed out thanks to his association with the in-development mod.

Rockstar has already stated their stance on mods and modders after players of the game reported being banned for using mods in single-player sessions. They claimed that they did not intend to issue bans for players modding in the single-player mode, but also went on to explain that mods and other exploits online would not be tolerated and that players caught cheating could very well be banned.

The FiveM project seems like it should not be subject to this stance though as it will exist on its own servers and will have no bearing on the core GTA Online experience. Though it should be noted that the Rockstar’s EULA for Grand Theft Auto V does state that player may not, “cheat or utilize any unauthorized robot, spider, or other program in connection with any online features of the Software.” Clearly this language leaves some wriggle room, and the banning of the FiveM Grand Theft Auto V modders may still be fully within the rights of Rockstar.
