The Happy Disasters of Red Dead Redemption 2’s Cinematic Camera

By holding down the touchpad on PS4, players can experience a cinematic mode in Red Dead Redemption 2 which allows you to view the game almost as if it was being shot like a sprawling Hollywood film. Unfortunately, some players seem to forget that you still have to control the horse during this mode, which has led to some of the funniest fails in the history of the franchise. There’s something so tragic yet hilarious in seeing these majestic beasts ridden by the grittiest of men directly into a barn door or a train car. I wish i could play the whole game like this. Take a look at some of the funniest we found on the web.

This is great. What gets me every time is the dramatic transition to the cinematic camera. The aspect ratio changes and all of a sudden we’re watching a spaghetti western, up until he gets close-lined by a gigantic boulder.

I love how deliberately drawn-out this Red Dead Redemption 2 video is. Morgan is riding along and everything seems fine right until the very last moment. I’m not sure if the player had enough time to react and stop the horse but maybe he or she got caught up in the moment and paid the price. I feel bad for the horse on this one, big time.

Okay, I’m not so sure what is going on here. It’s not like this is a dense forest, there’s several other ways to go yet he directly makes contact with the tree head on. You do see a minor maneuver attempt right before the collision but ultimately was not enough. Ouch.

The brilliance of this clip is how Morgan and company are immediately ejected and deposited into the poor man’s coach. I like how the player does try to move out of the way but like many other funny clips like this one, the cinematic camera doesn’t let you move as freely as you’d like. I’m just wondering what the guy in the coach was thinking.

This has actually happened to me. Sometimes you over-steer the horse and other times you under-steer the horse. Unfortunately for the player. he got a little too close for comfort and was launched several feet in the air.

Have any fails to share of your own? Feel free to share your stories with us. Using the cinematic camera is definitely the most beautiful way to experience Red Dead Redemption 2 but it also turns out to be the funniest. It almost seems like Morgan suffers more injuries riding his horse than actually engaging in firefights and robberies. Good thing these horses don’t hold grudges.
