Gearbox Announces No More Updates for Battleborn

Battleborn

Battleborn‘s Creative Director Randy Varnell has confirmed that Gearbox won’t be injecting anymore content to the game after the Fall Update. The last batch was announced during PAX West and it’s bringing some new skins, extra Finishers Boosts and Taunts plus minor balance changes. However, the servers won’t be closing down for the foreseeable future, granting loyal players with plenty of time to keep on enjoying.

Randy Varnell has chosen the Battleborn official forums to pass along this official news. He himself is leaving the boat to embark on a brand new, unannounced, Gearbox adventure. This project could well be Borderlands 3, which allegedly has the great part of Gearbox’s staff working already at full capacity.

The announcement has come with the following SHiFT code for Deande’s “Intelligence” skin: ZKK33-FT59R-KCK3S-XCR33-B56HB. You can redeem it in-game before October 2nd.

Battleborn: A Development in the Shadows

It’s no news to anyone that Battleborn has been battling silently behind the trails of Overwatch ever since its release. Launched last year with only three weeks of difference, both games positioned themselves within the new wave of competitive arena titles featuring an eclectic and cheerful rooster of heroes. In a few months, Blizzard’s option soaked through the masses and managed plenty of GOTY honors. Battleborn, on the other hand, was deemed a flop.

Despite multiple updates and a very loyal community, numbers never picked up. Back in June, the game even turned into free-to-play. This was probably Gearbox’s last try in bringing new players into their title… to no avail. On a more positive note, we know that Gearbox is working at least on two different projects. So there are definitely more things to look forward in the future, new IPs included.

Are there any Battleborn players amongst you, Fanatics? If so, how do you feel about Gearbox’s decision to let it go? Let us know in the comment section down below!
