Have you ever wanted a Blockbuster for video games? Sure, there are services such as GameFly that will send you one game at a time, but we have to admit that this just does not do the trick. Having a similar service at a physical location would be, extremely practical and, admittedly, overly abused. There is something about walking into a store and physically putting your hands on your choice of purchase.
Luckily, someone has answered our prayers. GameStop has announced a new used game rental program called Power Pass.
For $60 players can subscribe to the service. This sub will give gamers the ability to rent out a used game and trade it out for a different title whenever they please. Customers can only rent out one game at a time. At the end of the six months players will be able to choose one game to keep.
With the increasing popularity of digital downloads for games, the retailer has no doubt been suffering. At the start of 2017, GameStop suffered a steep decline in their earnings. The company also received some criticism for its Circle of Life program. This policy encouraged sales representatives to push to sell used games before new ones. This decline was followed by an announcement that the store would be open on Thanksgiving this year. Hopefully the new program will also attract customers back into stores. GameStop has a huge stock of used games that are currently going–well–unused.
GameStop Power Pass will begin on November 19. It we be available just in time for the holiday season. The subscription can be gifted, and anyone with a Power-Up Rewards account can activate it. Either free or paid rewards members will be able to take advantage of this service.
