Gamescom 2013 | Ubisoft Unveils Movie Plans, New Trailer for Watch Dogs

Continuing to take audiences by surprise, Ubisoft announced a movie partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment and New Regency for its upcoming game, Watch Dogs, at Gamescom yesterday. The Watch Dogs film will join Ubisoft Motion Pictures’ upcoming projects including films based on the Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell franchises.

“The themes and open gameplay of ‘Watch Dogs‘ lends itself perfectly to the big screen,” said Hannah Minghella, president of production for Columbia Pictures. “It has tremendous potential as a motion picture and we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to work closely with Ubisoft‘s internal creative team on the development of the project.”

And if an upcoming film wasn’t enough, the Montreal-based studio showcased a new trailer for its Fall 2013 open-world thriller.

In this new trailer, a member from the game’s notorious hacker group “DedSec” has hacked a ctOS (security agency) promotional video to warn citizens that their personal information is at risk of being hacked by the game’s protagonist, Aiden Pierce.

It’s interesting to note that the DedSec hacker mentions his group does not defend Aiden Pierce‘s actions. So does this mean you’ll have to compete with DedSec to hack certain Chicago civil infrastructure? And will citizens look for ways to make your path to their personal information more difficult?

You can watch the DedSec trailer on the official Watch Dogs YouTube Channel.

Watch Dogs will be launched alongside the Playstation 4 on November 15. It will be available for PC, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Wii U on November 19. No release for Xbox One has been confirmed.
