Games Releasing This Month – February 2017
Nioh
Platforms: PlayStation 4
Release Date: February 7
We start the month with Nioh, an action-RPG developed by Team Ninja (creators of the Dead or Alive fighting series). The game is all about exploring levels and beating the hell out of the enemies that populate them. There’s an interesting story going on as well. Nioh is based on an unfinished script by film director Akira Kurosawa, recounting the ramblings of a Western samurai William Adams in 1600s Japan. The game takes its own path, of course, yielding supernatural powers to Adams and venturing into a nightmarish world of its own.
For Honor
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: February 14
For Honor was announced last year at E3 and we have been following its trajectory ever since. The game takes us to a gritty, harsh world where three factions are engaged in an almost perpetual war: the Vikings, the Knights and the Samurai. Ubisoft Montreal brings us an ambitious hack-and-slash title, rich in details, and with a clear orientation towards multiplayer. If you dig good storytelling and lore, For Honor will surprise you with a compelling single-player campaign as well. We cannot wait to try it out!
Sniper Elite 4
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: February 14
Sniper Elite 4 follows the events and the chronology of the third game and brings the action to 1943 Italy. In this new installment, we get into the shoes of Karl Fairburne, a badass sniper tasked to assist the Italian resistance force against the Fascists. Apart from the historic details and the change of setting, the characteristic elements of the Sniper Elite series are still there. Skull breaking, organ puncturing, knee shattering… Play it as you want, either with stealth or fully loco, and see those enemies face their demise nonstop. And yes, the (in)famous crotch shots are also back.
Halo Wars 2
Platforms: PC, Xbox One
Release Date: February 21
Any Halo fans in the house? Halo Wars 2 brings us back to the series’ universe, RTS-style, resuming the story of the 2009 game Halo Wars as we left it. We’ll follow the steps of the UNSC faction as they descend to Installation 0 to discover that a new enemy division, the Banished, has invaded the place. As with its forerunner, there are plenty of missions, cinematics, and multiplayer modes to keep you entertained for hours. All topped up with references and details from previous Halo games.
LEGO Worlds
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: February 21
If you are a LEGO fanatic and an experienced builder, then Lego Worlds is probably your thing. In this game you can indulge in crazy constructions in a 3D procedurally generated world. Everything in this sandbox is super customizable, from terrain, buildings, and environments to players’ appearances and outfits. If you feel inspired, you can generate your own world by using the so called “brick-by-brick” editor tool.
Night in the Woods
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4
Release Date: February 21
Night in the Woods is our indie game pick for February. Exploration, adventure, and anthropomorphic animals meet in a game where we’ll follow the steps of a cat with paranormal abilities. Night in the Woods is surely a curious alternative for all gamers searching for a curious story that delves into adult themes. Mental illness, depression, and the struggles of middle and lower classes are only some of these. Overall, it’s an interesting game if you are close to narrative-driven games.
Ys Origin
Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita
Release Date: February 21
You may know it already but, Ys Origin is not a new title. Actually, its release on Steam happened in 2012. Despite its age, good sales and reception drove its publishers to bring it to PlayStation 4 and Vita. Who will enjoy Ys Origin? Those who are fans of everything JRPG, with a special soft spot for classics and nostalgia. On top of that, this rebirth brings new exclusive features and enhancements so this may be as good occasion as any to try it out if you haven’t yet.
Horizon Zero Dawn
Platforms: PlayStation 4
Release Date: February 28
Horizon Zero Dawn doesn’t really need presentation. We have been following its trajectory since we saw Aloy, its protagonist, slaying a massive mix between dinosaur and machine. What a concept and what a world! Everything we have seen from the game so far speaks of beautiful environments, high-paced action gameplay, and also an intriguing storyline where mechanical beasts and tribal clans share the world. Is Guerrilla Games delivering their best title to date with Horizon? We’ll need to wait for the end of the month to see it!
Torment: Tides of Numenera
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Release Date: February 28
Torment: Tides of Numenera comes ready to please old school RPG masters that enjoy the perks of a good story over combat and clogged inventories. It’s the spiritual successor of Planescape: Torment (1999) and it finally sees the light after a very long delay. Like, a really long one. Originally planned for a 2014 release after one of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns at that moment, the development process has stretched all the way to 2017.
And now it’s time for you to share your thoughts. What games are you gonna play in February, Fanatics? Are you getting some of these or are you following your own particular list? Let us know in the comment section down below and happy gaming!
