First R.B.I. Baseball 14 Details Revealed

The announcement of R.B.I. Baseball 14 brought joy to many older gamers. The franchise used to be a sports staple on older consoles before its final release in 1995.

Today, however, is a new day, and one that calls for a new R.B.I. Baseball game. Developed by Major League Baseball Advanced Media, the franchise is set to return to iOS, Android, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One this spring. As an Xbox 360/Xbox One/Wii U/Android owner, this is going to be the only way I can get my baseball fix in 2014. Unless, of course, I boot up a game of Baseball Superstars, but I’m itching for the real deal.

Polygon was recently able to get a look at the game. They warn us to not expect a worthy competitor for the MLB: The Show franchise. Instead, R.B.I. Baseball 14 is a throwback to the franchise we used to know. Two button controls, simple visuals, and fast paced gameplay.

“It’s going to be very true to the roots of the brand, of R.B.I. Baseball,” Jamie Leece, MLBV Advanced Media Vice President told Polygon. “It will be fast-paced; games can be played in under 20 minutes. From a user control standpoint, fans will find the controls to be ‘classic,’ reminiscent of the two-button controls from games of that generation.”

Reaction to the game’s direction has been mixed. Some are happy with the game’s direction, eager to enjoy a cheap, simple, and quick game of baseball. Others who were expecting a full fledged (and full priced) simulation aren’t being shy from voicing their displeasure. But hey, this is the internet, and you can’t please everyone.

R.B.I Baseball 14 will be available April 10th for iOS, Android, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Expect the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions to arrive shortly after.
