My momma always said, “Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”
Forrest Gump is one of the most compelling stories, you could ever watch. A film which follows a (in the kindest way) less then bright mans extraordinary life. As he obliviously stumbles his way into histories greatest moments, and becomes some what of a modest legend. Whilst his main agenda is to find his one true sweetheart, Jenny.
This is quite a humbling story, but it doesn’t derive its merit. To watch how a simple man, how is not expected for fame. He is bullied as a child, deemed unintelligent by schools and unacknowledged who he loves. Yet he over comes all of these obstacles, and seamlessly proves them wrong. As he unintentionally conquerors goals & dreams, that he didn’t even possess. He becomes; a football player, war hero, a ping pong champion, a shrimp boat captain, Rich, invests in Apple corp & mowed grass for free. As well as teaching Elvis his leg shuffle, and informing the police of the Watergate scandal. Then one day he went running across America, just because he ”felt like running”.
Its the shear amount of accomplishments in one lifetime, by a less then ordinary man. That makes this film so spectacular. Its just a heart warming and motivational film to watch. Its a roller coaster of life, which gives hope to yourself. If Forrest Gump can?
The film is acted out to perfection, which is some likely why it one 6 Academy Awards. Tom Hanks is obviously the main role of ‘Forrest Gump’, and he gives one of the best performances of his career. He really creates a 3-D character, and pulls you into the story. He made this Film, and it wouldn’t be the same with any other actor.
The Film also offers the best list of ‘What you can do with a Shrimp’…
shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey’s uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There’s pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that’s about it.
The other reason I think this film is brilliant, is the way the story is told. Its not cheesy flash backs, or a man talking from a book about his life. Its just present day Forrest Gump, talking to people waiting for a bus. Like all of his life isn’t that special, its just something to pass time. Its the contrast of his achievements, to the petty way he describes it. Just as if his amazing life was nothing, which to the modest man it was. To way each part of the story is told to different people as there lives continue, but you stay. Leading all the way to the time he sat down.
But then the story continues, and it becomes more emotional. The story about his social accomplishments has ended, and the film wraps up his love life. His Jenny story. Yet its not all ”They live happy forever after”, its disheartening. And yet its warming at the same time. He finds happiness and bliss.
The feather once again signifies a new life, and a new story.
