Well if soon for you means the end of the world, then yes, Project V13 (AKA Fallout MMO) will be released for open beta sometime in the year 2012.
Since no title has been officially announced, the name Fallout Online (or FOOL) is used by Fallout fans to refer to the possible future Fallout MMO. While Project V13 is used officially by Interplay, it is a codename, not the final name of the game. The official title will be known after the game is announced. V13 likely stands for Vault 13, which was the starting location in the original Fallout. Vault 13: A GURPS Post-Nuclear Adventure was also the initial working title of what eventually became Fallout.
As @Interplay and @Bethesda duke out the future of the Fallout brand in the courts, @Interplay is moving forward with Project: V13, widely believed to be a codename for a #Fallout MMO. @Interplay has since announced a development deal for Project: V13 with Masthead Studios (also developing Earthrise) and revealed plans to have the online game enter a public beta sometime in — wait for it! — 2012.
Yep, 2012. Not 2010. Not 2011. @Bethesda has been pressing @Interplay to provide evidence that Project: V13 is truly in development, a clause that’s key to Interplay retaining the rights to continue making a Fallout MMO. Announcing that Project: V13 will be entering a public beta possibly years ahead of when that public beta might actually launch is, to be fair, a decent way to drum up some headlines.
According to the press release, Project: V13 has been in development since November 2007 with some key members of the original Fallout development staff. Masthead Studios joined in early 2009 and brings so-called “impressive” #technology that will help fulfill the game’s creative vision.
“Masthead’s technology is impressive and perfect for our Project: V13,” said @Interplay chairman and CEO Herve Caen in a release. “Its team is passionate to bring our vision and game play to the market. This MMOG will have many unique features that we will disclose before launch of the public Beta in 2012.”
