Microsoft unveiled Fable Legends, the next game in the Fable franchise, at the 2013 Gamescom event in Germany overnight.
Fable Legends is being developed by Lionhead Studios and looks to be more of a multiplayer affair than previous titles in the series. You can play single-player or with up to three friends as you explore Albion some 400 years before the first Fable game, right when the age of heroes is being forged. In addition, you or a friend can even be the bad guy, taking control of monsters and traps using an overhead view.
Check out the announcement trailer:
The game will use Microsoft‘s Smartglass technology for smartphones and tablets, and even for local co-op if one person plays as the villain and another as the hero. If you choose to go solo, you’ll be flanked by three A.I. companions. If you choose to play with friends, you’ll most likely need an Xbox Live Gold account except for the local co-op option.
Graphically speaking, it looks similar to other games in the Fable franchise, but time will tell whether the “stage performance” look of the trailer will carry over to actual gameplay.
There’s no word on a release date for Fable Legends, but if you’re a fan of the series, you just got one more reason to pick up the Xbox One when it launches in November.
