Ex Burnout Devs Working on a New Driving Game

Burnout

Alex Ward, the director of the Burnout series, announced news on Twitter today that his studio, Three Fields Entertainment, are developing a new driving game.

Having worked on the series at Criterion since its inception in 2001 with the original Burnout, Ward will be working alongside Fiona Sperry – also an ex Criterion employee – at their new independent studio Three Fields Entertainment.

Burnout Paradise released to critical and commercial success in 2008, and has left an eight-year thirst for the kind of visceral, vehicular mayhem that only Criterion can deliver. This will shift series fans and driving game fans up a gear; though there aren’t any other details at this point.

The independent studio’s first game was Dangerous Golf, which in a funny way was kind of the crash mode from Burnout, only now as an indoor golf fame with the much-needed addition of explosions. Dangerous Golf was fun, though not very well received critically, so it seems that Three Fields Entertainment is sticking with what they know.

Due to the fact that EA owns the brand, whatever Ward and his associates end up releasing, it will Burnout in all but name – which will no-doubt be enough to appease long-time fans. We will keep our eyes peeled for any further word on the new game.
