It was no mystery that social games like Farmville were a huge hit a few years ago, but EA feels that it’s time to focus more on console and mobile. EA has recently confirmed that they’ll be shifting some of their focus from developing social and Facebook games and will put some of those resources toward console and mobile development. EA recently had a round of layoffs not too long ago and apparently its a direct relation to their move from social/Facebook to console and mobile games.
This doesn’t mean that their presence on Facebook will be nonexistent, Frank Gibeau, President of EA, said they will remain active on Facebook and continue to participate on the platform, but they’ll be focusing elsewhere on console and mobile for the next few years.
This could be due to the fact that next generation Xbox and PlayStation consoles are right around the corner and expected later this holiday season. Getting titles onto the new platforms seems like a smart move and will hopefully lead to titles that are more polished with the recent shift in focus on development.
