EA have announced on their official site that they have struck a new deal with Coldwood Interactive – the developers of Unravel – to extend their partnership for the small developer’s next project.
Patrick Söderlund declared in his statement: “At EA, we love working with creative and passionate development teams, in our own studios and our partners, which is why I’m very pleased to announce that we’ve signed a new agreement with Coldwood to work with them on their next project.”
Now quite the new project is going to be has yet to be announced, EA committed only to “sharing more when the time is right”. Martin Sahlin (creative director) and his team created the charming Unravel, which was released for PS4 and Xbox One in February this year.
Whilst being artistically charming and a novel idea, the game was sadly a little lacklustre when it game to its gameplay – not the area you want to fall short in. This is an area where developers – particularly smaller independent developers need to be mindful, as it is sometimes the case when a game’s artistic merit overshadows how fun it is to play (see Never Alone, White Night, and The Unfinished Swan).
We will keep our ears to ground to see what the team at Coldwood Interactive, in newly inked collaboration with EA, produce next…
