E3 2012 | Nintendo Still Researching Wii U Zelda

Many Nintendo fans wondered why Zelda was absent from their E3 press conference after having such a strong presence last year. As it turns out, there just wasn’t anything new to show. As followers of the industry know, Nintendo has an impeccable record of releasing quality software, Wii Music notwithstanding. When handling an important franchise like The Legend of Zelda, which just celebrated a very special 25th anniversary last year, it’s imperative that you only show people the best you have. Entertainment Weekly caught up with Zelda mastermind Shigeru Miyamoto and asked him how The Legend of Zelda is handling the transition to Wii U.

You can read the full interview by following this link, but the short version is that Nintendo is still adapting their development to the newest generation of gamers, and experimenting with different aspects of Zelda to bring the new game to the widest possible audience, ranging from those who only just started gaming on the Wii to those who haven’t missed a single Legend since the series debuted. In other terms, they’re still trying to find the hook.

The Wii U isn’t due until later this year, and the wait for The Legend of Zelda Wii U will likely be even longer. Until then, there’s at least the footage shown during last year’s Wii U sizzle reel.

The footage above can make the wait for a new Zelda unbearable, but if anyone can make a wait worth it, Nintendo can.
