Microsoft is making major moves to reel in the Japanese audience for the Xbox. Premiering in their Xbox Games Showcase today was announcement that Dragon Quest XI S will be coming to Xbox Game Pass on December 4th 2020. For clarity, this version will be the definitive edition released for the Switch late last year. This will be the first Dragon Quest to ever appear on Xbox.
This wont be the first big news for Xbox in the realm of JRPGs. As of late they’ve added multiple huge Final Fantasy games, Yakuza 0 and Kiwami, and now Dragon Quest XI. The lack of success Xbox has experienced in Japan is well documented. As a fan of JRPGs, it is encouraging to see the prioritization Microsoft has put into expanding their library to interest the Japanese audience, which could lead to further big titles making their way to Xbox. While everyone is anxiously waiting for news on Halo Infinite, I am here celebrating the fact that I’ll be experiencing the wonderful Dragon Quest XI for the third time this generation.
