Last weekend at GaymerX2, Bioware held a panel regarding romance and relationships in their upcoming title Dragon Age: Inquisition. Lead Writer David Gaider, and writer Patrick Weekes were on hand discussing how they create characters, and when they decide the characters sexual preference. It starts with a writer pitching their character along with that characters background. From there multiple writers work together to pencil in the details, such as sexual orientation. What that creates is different perspectives from multiple writers allowing the character to develop its own identity.
“The character isn’t always going to do what we want…the process doesn’t always lend itself to that,” David Gaider states. Patrick Weekes later added it’s all about “writing stories that we need to tell…hoping that we have the trust from the players to know that we’ve hit that pretty rigorously.”
Exploring different characters sexual preference isn’t something Bioware is trying to shy away from in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Just last month David Gaider revealed in a post on the official Dragon Age Inquisition website that “Dorian” would be their first fully gay party member.
Dragon Age: Inquisition launches October 7th 2014. You can check out the latest trailer below.
