Doomsday Joins the Roster of Injustice: Gods Among Us

One of the most requested characters for 2008’s Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, Superman villain Doomsday, will be playable in the game’s spiritual sequel – Injustice: Gods Among Us – according to a video released today. For those of you unaware, Doomsday is the monster that was the main focal point for DC ComicsThe Death of Superman storyline back in the ’90s that not only revitalized comic sales but ended up giving Superman a sweet mullet. Doomsday was also one of the most oft-requested DLC characters for Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, which was developed by Mortal Kombat creators Midway just prior to their bankruptcy. Luckily, the team that developed Mortal Kombat‘s 2011 reboot is also behind Injustice: Gods Among Us, so we should expect some fast and engaging gameplay, and now Netherrealm gets to keep Ed Boon’s promise, even if it’s in a roundabout way.

The game’s plot revolves around Superman, who decided enough was enough and took over the world after Metropolis is devastated by the Joker. The Justice League rules with an iron fist, until Batman starts a revolution… which means that it’s possible, story-wise, that Batman will unleash Doomsday upon Superman as a means of stopping his totalitarian regime.

We’ll find out on April 16th, when Injustice: Gods Among Us hits the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U.
