After a year-long build for their Doomsday Clock storyline, DC Comics has announced something special for the final piece before the clock strikes midnight. DC announced plans for the November release parties so that fans can get their hands on Doomsday Clock #1 ahead of wide release.
The early release will be held at comic shops at 11:57 p.m on Tuesday, November 21st; coincidentally the same time shown on the clock face used for the event’s logo. The parties will allow fans to get copies of the comic before nationwide release scheduled for November 22nd. Additionally, there will be black-and-white variant covers, promotional pins and lithographs designed by artist Gary Frank at the release parties.
Doomsday Clock features DC’s heroes and villains interacting with the groundbreaking characters from Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen. The story by Geoff Johns, is not intended to be a Watchmen sequel and the story will itself be standalone. Based on an interview earlier this year with Syfy Wire we have a good idea of where Johns is taking the story.
“There will be DC characters throughout this, but this focuses in on only a handful. There is a lot of focus on Superman, and Doctor Manhattan. Doctor Manhattan is a huge focus, and his reasons for being here, and doing what he does, ultimately have to do with Superman. And there are many, many more characters to be involved, but it is a bit early to discuss.” – Geoff Johns
Johns will be joined on Doomsday Clock by Gary Frank and Brad Anderson. November is fast approaching in which we can finally see what Johns has planned. However for some of us, the waiting has us saying that Doomsday can’t come soon enough!
