DmC: Definitive Edition is Cutting a Bloody Path Onto Next-Gen Consoles in 2015

DmC: Devil May Cry, the reboot of the franchise that set the industry standard for the hack-and-slash genre, will be making its way to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in early 2015, as announced by developer Ninja Theory. Fans can now complain about Dante’s hair in 1080p.

Aside from taking colons followed by a subtitle to a ridiculously redundant level (basically Devil May Cry: Devil May Cry), DmC was well-received by the gaming community and critics alike (Dante’s hair, however, was not so lucky), so it comes as no surprise that it’s coming to the next generation of consoles next year.

Ninja Theory‘s Dominic Matthews made the announcement this morning, saying that DmC: Definitive Edition delivers, appropriately enough, the “definitive” DmC experience. On top of the typical technical boosts (60 fps, 1080p, plus ‘uprezzed’ graphics), and the usual DLC bundling (which includes the campaign DLC “Vergil’s Downfall,” as well as three Dante and Weapon skins and the item finder), DmC: Definitive Edition has the largest amount of new content included in any generational port in recent years.

You can look forward to two exclusive character skins (Devil May Cry 1 Dante and Classic Vergil), the return of turbo mode, a Hardcore Mode reminiscent of the original Devil May Cry, a manual target lock, a new Bloody Palace mode featuring Vergil as the playable character, “Must Style Mode,” which requires you to reach S-Rank in a combo to deal any damage to enemies, the new ‘Gods Must Die’ difficulty mode which doesn’t allow you to use health pickups or items, plus numerous gameplay tweaks requested by the community, and integration of popular community mods, plus a new cutscene that didn’t find its way into the original release of the game, and a partridge in a pear tree.

DmC Definitive Edition

That’s quite a bit of content, especially if you’re a glutton for punishment, so this actually seems like a port worth buying. It’s not just the same content you’ve already played, but with a fresh application of make-up; no, there’s actually a treasure trove of new goodies to be had. With the new difficulty settings, this should keep fans satisfied a good, long time.

The end of the announcement trailer also casually teases Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition, but practically as an afterthought. It seems to be slated for a 2015 summer release.

DmC: Definitive Edition ensures one very important thing: March is going to be a bloody month.

DmC: Definitive Edition will be cutting a bloody path on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on March 17th, 2015 for $39.99 / €39.99, available either digitally and through retail.
