Indie developer The Outsiders has officially presented their newest game. It goes by the code name of Project Wight; it’s an RPG and offers quite a unique take for a non-typical Viking story.
You may have not heard about The Outsiders and after reading this article, you may start following them. Founded by former lead designer on Battlefield 3 and Game Director on Payday 2, David Goldfarb, The Outsiders is a recently created studio with less than two years of life. And despite their indie signature, they are aiming pretty high with their first title. Project Wight, as they call it, has been announced today. Do not get mislead by the simplicity of its codename though. Project Wight has everything in place to trigger your interest: an unsettling atmosphere, heavy Viking sparks, and monsters at the verge of extinction.
The following sneak peek offers already a pretty nice look on how the game looks and feels like. Don’t be shy and go have a look. This time we are heading away from the world of shooters and gunshots and venturing into what seems to be an adventure type of game with RPG elements.
Project Wight, a Different Take on a Viking Story
Viking narratives have always been quite prolific in the world of gaming and media. What makes Project Wight different is the change of perspective it brings. This is made quite clear from the very beginning and we cannot but cherish it already. Adopting the “other side of things” twist is definitely a fresh take on the genre, right?
In the video, David Goldfarb offers small glimpses of that piercing world they are creating, a fictionalized version of early Viking times where humans still coexist with the remnants of a mythological creatures. But not for long, it seems. In the game, we’ll be actually playing as a monster, allegedly one of the last of its species. In a rather brutal realization, we see the dark fate that is awaiting to our kind: death and annihilation at the hands of those humans. We can also see how the age of the creature impacts the way it reacts to the world, and how it defends from it.
Project Wight is currently announced only for PC and does not have an official release date. We have been rather hooked by what we have saw, so make sure you follow the Fanatics as more details about this game gets revealed.
