Destiny Will Now Have Microtransactions – Prepare Yourselves, Guardians

In a world ruled by microtransactions in video games, it was only a matter of time before Destiny, the hottest shooter around, decided to test the waters. Bungie announced via a blog post that starting October 13th , a patch will go live for Destiny and Tess will return to the Tower with her new storefront that will be under the name of “Eververse Trading Company.” Guardians will be able to purchase emotes from her after the patch scheduled to go live on Tuesday.

Oh, but you must purchase them with real life money. Emotes are, of course, completely optional in Destiny and it will not affect your playability as you traverse the Universe with your Guardian.

Guardians may purchase emotes with the newest currency called “Silver.” Silver can be acquired through the appropriate console marketplace (i.e PlayStation Network or Xbox Live) and purchased using real life dollars. Destiny has rewarded players in the past with pre-order bonuses and the purchasing of certain promotional items (i.e the Redbull promotion from earlier this summer). However this will be the first true microtransaction that Bungie will offer.

Bungie reassures Guardians that purchasing emotes in Destiny will not give you an advantage over a Raid boss or helping with loot drops. In other words, purchasing emotes will not increase your chances at being a better player in Destiny.

These emotes are just a fun add on that will help your Guardian express their joy with other players or their smugness towards enemies. Bungie reaffirms their decision to include microtransactions in Destiny as a way to further support the growth of the game so that they may “…create more robust and engaging events…” for the future.
