Today, Marvel fans got a quick glance at one of the highly anticipated future heroes of the MCU, Black Panther on the set of Captain America: Civil War.
This newly introduced character, also known as T’Challa, is the king of Wakanda, home of the only supply of Vibranium in the world and the metal Captain America‘s shield is made of. During the Civil War story arc, Black Panther avoided joining either side but covertly helped Captain America‘s anti-registration faction. Marvel released concept art on the character last year, seen above, but no one has had the chance to see what Chadwick Boseman will actually look like in Panther suit.
You can go to his profile to see the other handful of pictures he snapped from the set.
The Black Panther suit looks close to the concept, and miles different from any other Marvel hero costume to date; it’s a great amalgamation of Panther’s traditional comic costume, and the stylized versions all Marvel Cinematic Universe characters wear. The entirely black costume is broken up by some silvery trimming – which is more than likely Vibranium – and seems to be entirely one piece.
It was a big letdown to a lot of fans to hear that the solo Black Panther movie was being pushed back to make room for the Sony/Marvel Spider-Man re-reboot, but it’s good to see everything looking so great this early in filming; hopefully, this first taste of the long-tenured Avengers character will get fans excited for his solo movie in 2018.
Captain America: Civil War releases on May 6, 2016.
