CES 2014 | Netgear Trek N300 Travel Router

At the Computer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Monday, Netgear revealed its Trek N300 Travel Router and Range Extender, an outlet-powered device that allows users to route a single Wi-Fi connection to multiple devices. In other words, a travel router lets you pay for public Internet access just once — at a cafe, hotel, or airport — and share that access with all of your devices. It’s your own, personal Wi-Fi hotspot.

The Trek N300 not only acts as a router, but also a bridge and range extender. “With a powerful fold-out external antenna, you’ll enjoy increased range whether you use Trek on the go or at home,” writes Netgear in its press release. “It even boosts public WiFi signal strength for improved connection reliability.”

The device can be powered by either plugging it into an outlet or your PC via micro USB. It looks light enough to easily fit in a backpack or suitcase.

On paper, Netgear’s Trek N300 is slightly more robust than your average travel router in terms of features. It’s also slightly more expensive at $49.99.
