During CES this week, Samsung told a reporter from Bloomberg that the company is experimenting with iris-scanning technology, which may be incorporated into the upcoming Galaxy S5 smart phone.
In an effort to compete with Apple’s series of mobile products, Samsung has other big plans for the device as well, including a fingerprint reader, wraparound display, and enhanced integration with the Galaxy Gear smart watch.
“When we release our S5 device (around March or April),” the company told Bloomberg, “you can also expect a Gear successor with more advanced functions, and the bulky design will also be improved.”
Samsung, which is based in South Korea, currently controls around one-third of the global smartphone market. The company also informed Bloomberg that it will release at least one more wearable device this year, but additional details will have to wait until February or early March.
