CES 2012: Lenovo introduces the IdeaPad YOGA and IdeaCentre A720

At CES today, Lenovo introduced two of its new computers, the IdeaPad YOGA and the IdeaCentre A720. The YOGA is a tablet designed for four modes of operation, and the IdeaCentre is a large (twenty-seven inches) but very slim (less than an inch) all-in-one computer. These new computers aim to give users more flexibility while streamlining the experience.

The YOGA is Lenovo’s way of breaching the gap between a tablet and a notebook. Its patented dual hinge design is the crux of the multiple modes of operation. In addition to functioning as standard notebook computer, the screen folds back to become a 13.1 inch tablet. The table can also be folded into a stand and tent mode for easy viewing of media. The YOGA will run Windows 8, have 8 GB RAM and 256GB SSD, and approximately 8 hours of battery life.  The multiple modes of use aim to give the user added functionality in a single device, as opposed to having separate tablet and notebook.

“The IdeaPad YOGA multi-mode notebook redefines the convergence and convertible user experience by bringing together the best of traditional PCs, with the best of tablets and more.”, Yang Yuanqing, Chairman and CEO, Lenovo.

The IdeaCentre A720’s goal is to bring the touch interface into the home in an easy to use and convenient way. It is an all-in-one computer with a 27 inch multi-touch 16:9 screen along side the standard mouse and keyboard. The stand has a pivot range from -5 degrees to 90 degrees, allowing for comfortable viewing and usage and any angle. The large touch screen gives the A720 a wide array of uses, from playing games, to music making software as well as watching movies and TV shows. Powered by an Intel processor and NVIDIA graphics, the A720 also includes Dolby Home Theatre Audio and a HD webcam.

Lenovo has solid history of good products, and both of these computers are shaping up to be very exciting. Look for the YOGA in the second half of 2012, while the IdeaCentre A720 should be out sooner during the first half of the year.
