Some of you may remember Boulder Dash, an arcade action-puzzler from 1984 that, in a nutshell, could just as easily be called Dig Dug Dungeons (which, by the way, isn’t a real game). A newer version was brought to the Xbox Live Arcade and PC by Catnip Games, but now 3DS owners can educate themselves with Boulder Dash-XL 3D.
Set as a sequel to the original arcade game, players will choose between characters Rockford or Crystal and, according to the press release, “mine their way through a variety of hazardous, yet stunning, three dimensional caves whilst avoiding crushing boulders and an eerie menagerie of killer creatures.”
In addition, players can play over 150 new caves in 5 new game modes, which are Arcade, Puzzle, Zen, Score Attack and Retro, and share high scores via Streetpass. Boulder Dash-XL 3D will hit shelves July 20th of this year.
