March 2017 will see the arrival of the first Battlefield 1 paid expansion, They Shall Not Pass. To make our mouths water, the DICE team has released some new images of future maps – and they are looking amazing.
The echo of “Soyez prêts!” (be prepared!) resounded loud and clear through the French front lines of Verdun in WW1. And also on Battlefield’s Twitter account three days ago. It was a sentence that teased the advent of something big and of course it did not take long to link the shout with its voice.
Battlefield 1 Heads to France
Battlefield 1 first paid expansion, They Shall Not Pass, is taking the theater of war to new scenarios on March 2017. From underground corridors to forests in flames, this recreation of the Battle of Verdun is bringing new maps, weapons and a playable French Army faction. From their latest blog post, we also know that the Battle of Soissons will be present as well, already hinting at different gameplay possibilities and general vibe. For instance, while Verdun will surely plunge us into the world sloppy trenches and nominal ground conquests, Soissons will host tons of tank action.
It’s too early to get more details at this point. But the DICE team wants to show a little bit the level of dedication that is going into the expansion. And so they have released a number of concept art illustrations to give us a hint on those future maps. Following what we have seen in Battlefield so far, they do not lack in details and they are fully atmospheric.
How do you like this first taste of They Shall Not Pass?
[blockquote cite=”Battlefield Blog”]Around 1 million shells were fired in the opening barrage of the Battle of Verdun. This created massive forest fires around the fortified city and the battlefields surrounding it. Soldiers tell stories of being able to see these fires from far away. We really wanted to capture this initial fighting in a battle that came to be known as the Devil’s Anvil.[/blockquote]
