Honeycomb was great for tablets, Gingerbread was great for smartphones. However, Ice Cream Sandwich will be one giant proverbial leap in the Android OS world, as it will forever unite the smartphone and tablets.
One OS to rule them all! Ice Cream Sandwich AKA Android 4.0 is the successor to the Android 3.x series of OS’s. It bridges the gap between mobile phones and tablet devices.
Google has big plans for Ice Cream Sandwich, where they include extensive improvements to the Android camera app (about time, too!), improved facial recognition technology and a resolution-agnostic experience.
The new OS was originally to be rolled out in Q4 of 2011, yet with all the hubbub surrounding Apple’s iOS 5 it would seem that Google is hard at work trying to beat them to the punch; it looks as though the first Ice Cream Sandwich devices will be hitting shelves as early as October this year. “The Mountain View-based company doesn’t want potential customers coming out of contracts (especially original DROID owners) and “drooling over the iPhone 5.”
