Amy Hennig has spoken for the first time publicly about the Star Wars game she is currently working on at Visceral Games.
Speaking at this year’s Star Wars Celebration, she gave away a little bit of information – by way of vague hints, mostly – about the kind of direction the new game will be taking. From what Hennig was saying, it sounds as though the game is going to have multiple protagonists:
“The difference between Star Wars and Indiana Jones is that there aren’t side characters; there are co-protagonists, and so the same thing is true of our game.”
Now whether or not Hennig was referring specifically to the idea of having multiple protagonists, or whether she meant that, as in in Uncharted, characters that aren’t Nathan Drake are given generous writing and screen-time, remains to be seen.
Hennig was also keen to impress the fresh take her and her team are going for:
“We’re creating an all-new Star Wars story with new characters, and it’s important that we honour it. We want you to finish playing the game and feel like you just saw a really good Star Wars movie.”
On top of Hennig’s comments there was concept art shown at the panel which depicted an imperial star destroyer and classic design stormtroopers, placing her game within the original trilogy time frame. There was also art of two characters scaling what looked like a gigantic palace – no doubt Hennig showing her platforming roots.
It may well be quite a while before we hear any more about Hennig’s new game; its release is slated for 2018, and Hennig said that she wasn’t going to speak about the game for some time now. The only snippet of footage we have is that which was shown at last month’s E3 – see below:
