We’ve known for a while that Insomniac, well known for their PlayStation exclusives, was working with EA on a multiplatform game. That game, Fuse, is almost here. Insomniac Games Community Lead James Stevenson tweeted the boxed copy of the studio’s first release on a non-Sony platform. (Okay, they did do that Facebook game, but this is different.)
Insomniac’s main account also tweeted the picture, captioning, “Well this is very very exciting. Fresh out of the factory! #fuse #May28” We’re excited too, guys.
Fuse was first revealed as Overstrike, a quirky shooter in the vein of Borderlands or Team Fortress 2. As time went on the team pulled a reverse Borderlands, changing the tone and art style to something more serious, and less cartoony. While the new look may turn away some gamers who prefer to see Fuse as “just another shooter,” it is still very much an Insomniac game. The weapons are inventive, a tradition started in the company’s Ratchet and Clank franchise that continued through the Resistance series.
Fuse will release May 28 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. I for one, can’t wait to see how Insomniac takes on the 4-player co-operative shooter, and how well the story will work, considering the boxart shows each character as Express mannequins.
