GameStop Brings Back Bamboozling

So, GameStop (once known as an enemy to game makers and players alike) is offering a new in-store feature: Downloadable content!

Apparently these new fangled down nodes are a real mystery to most:

“As part of our digital strategy, our goal is to help make extended game play of popular titles discoverable for our customers,” said GameStop President Tony Bartel. “In many cases, customers aren’t even aware of certain add-on content for their favorite video games, and our in-store DLC centers are a great way to discover what’s available.”

Ummm… really? You want me to go to a store to download downloadable content for my machine at home? I feel someone hasn’t properly explained the process to someone else.

(I’m so confused by this I may find my self wandering into my nearest game stop and looking into this external downloading… Dag! I’ve been bamboozled by their strange ways of bringing the interwebs into the real world…)

The article goes on to say that DLC makes a great gift. I’m sorry but free money (in the form of cash, credit, or points) makes a great gift. If your friend wants DLC, they know what they want. You don’t know, neither does your Grams nor your Auntie.

The decision to purchase in-game extras is not like having a soda. Sure, I’ll grab a Mountain Dew at checkout. And it’s sweet of you to think of me and get me one too when you’re in a store. But, I’d be kind of annoyed if you spent 800 points buying me a new level of a game I’ve been over for a month.

I could have used those points to get something that I actually wanted.

(sadly this is endorsed by Microsoft (Xbox) and Sony (Playstation).
