Carolina Games Summit To Focus On Game Violence, Using Games To Learn

If you’re planning on being in North Carolina on February 2nd and love video games, you should consider stopping by the 2013 Carolina Games Summit. Every year at Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, North Carolina, the Carolina Games Summit attracts gamers, speakers, and publishers for a variety of tournaments, exhibits, roundtable discussions, and more. If you’re looking for competition, on tap this year include multiplayer tournaments featuring Gears of War, League of Legends, Halo 4, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, and Starcraft 2, just to name some of them.

While you’re there, stop by the auditorium for some interesting discussions, including keynote speaker David Sears of SOF Studios as he addresses “The Truth About Power and Politics in the Game Industry,” which looks to teach attendees how each type of person in the gaming industry sees the other. Other speakers set for the Carolina Games Summit include Scott Patterson, who will look at the debate about video game violence, and Josh Fairhurst of Mighty Rabbit Studios, talking about “How to Survive as an Indy Developer.”

Also of note for FPS fans: the Carolina Games Summit will be hosting a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament for the first time, and the Unreal Tournament 3 competition has returned, with both LAN tournaments headed up by Industry Pro K1llSkreeN. They’ll be streamed live via Twitch.TV.

There will be booths set up by EA Games, Ubisoft subsidiary Red Storm Entertainment, and Funcom, among others. For tickets or more info, check out the Carolina Games Summit website.
