AMD has announced at CES their newest line of desktop graphics cards that are a re-branding of the 7000 series released last year. The 8000 series of GPUs will offer slight performance improvements over last years generation, but will not offer significant improvements that most of us are accustomed to seeing when new hardware is announced. This is not the first time this sort of thing has happened. NVIDIA in the past did the same thing with their GeForce 300 series when, just like now, OEM manufacturers requested newer hardware for their latest products to showcase to the public.
We are expecting to see AMD true next generation of GPU’s somewhere around Q2 of this year. The new GPU’s will most likely be placed under a different name altogether because of this recent re-branding. I hope whatever they release this coming year 1.) Runs cooler and more efficiently than my current Radeon HD 7950, and B) Has better options in terms of performance tweaking.
