Announced at E3 2012, TwitchTV, Alienware and SteelSeries are awarding $50,000 in scholarships to five students who excel in gaming and school. Basing the award on their GPA, gaming skills and passion are what they will determine the winners by.
TwitchTV is one of the top gaming broadcasting networks that attended E3 2012 along with tech companies Alienware and SteelSeries to announce their launch of their $50,000 scholarship program. Awarding the top 5 students who are at the the top of their “game” (pun intended)… the $50,000 will be divided between them. The criteria for the scholarships are merited by academic and gaming achievements that the winners excel in. You can now tell your parents it’s o.k. to game instead of homework… right?
Here is what the companies’ spokespersons have to say about the scholarships:
- CEO of TwitchTV, Emmett Shear said, “The scholarship concept was inspired by our desire to give something back to the community that has helped us grow to more than 17 million unique visitors a month, less than one year from our launch in June 2011.”
- General Manager of Alienware, Frank Azor mentions, “We’ve got a pretty competitive community out there and we are looking forward to providing an opportunity to foster that same passion for education.”
- SteelSeries’ CMO, Kim Rom, says “Participating in a scholarship specifically designed for students who are passionate about gaming while being determined to help grow and evolve this industry is something we are incredibly proud to be a part of. We’re excited to help spread the news of this scholarship and see the turnout of submissions.”
I think all three of the companies participating and using funds for the scholarship should be recognized in high regards. It’s an amazing gift to give back to the community. Want more details about the scholarship and how to apply go here: Scholarship Program
