Scrolls. Such a simple word. And yet, it has caused quite a headache for the the folks at ZeniMax and Mojang. The debacle began when Mojang filed for a trademark for “scrolls”, which ZeniMax felt was too similar to their trademark “The Elder Scrolls”. But have no fear dear readers, for they have come amicably to a settlement that everyone wins. Mojang will transfer the “scrolls” tradmark to ZeniMax, who in turn will allow Mojang to use the word “scrolls” on their digital card game. See? Everybody wins!
“We are pleased to have settled this matter with Mojang amicably,” said Robert Altman, Chairman and CEO of ZeniMax. “The Elder Scrolls is an important brand to us, and with this settlement we were able to protect our valuable property rights while allowing Mojang to release their digital card game under the name they preferred.”
Now if only everyone could be this nice.
