Indie Showcase: Aquaphobia: Mutant Brain Sponge Madness

Allow us to introduce you to a new feature here on TGF: the Indie Showcase. We have a lot of love for our independent game developers, and this is a chance for us to shine some well-deserved light on games that normally fly under the radar. This week’s showcase comes to us from some students and graduates of The University of Advancing Technology, @8_Bit_Brit was able to have an awesome tour of the campus for those of you unfamiliar with it.

[pullquote_right]Gibby is part of the real species, Geodia gibberosa.[/pullquote_right]The game of this week’s showcase is Aquaphobia: Mutant Brain Sponge Madness which is a browser-based, 2-D side-scrolling action platformer game that follows the story of Gibby, a Caribbean brain sponge. The poor sponge has been subjected to crazy experiments by the obviously mental Dr. Jack Harbor. Unknown to little Gibby, he lives in a science lab aquarium. After awakening from what must have been some sort of induced coma, he can now move around his environment to find out who he is and the amazing powers that he has.

The game is currently still in development, as the students juggle a semester load of classes along with the duties of developing the game, but the guys are moving “full steam ahead!” Watch the screencapture we were able to get of  Aquaphobia: Mutant Brain Sponge Madness below:
